The Medicare levy is already rising by 0.5%, so no, the rebate should be left alone. It only covers 85% of most services as it is. No double-dipping, thank you!
How would reducing the Medicare levy improve the national debt?

This question makes no sense. It's contrary to reality.
Absolutely not! Why don't they increase the MINING TAX?? The current watering down of the mining tax was a "cave in" to the bottomless and unending greed of billionaire magnets like Clive Palmer and Gina Rinehart! Mining companies MUST be made to pay their way and contribute towards the environmental pollution they cause and give back to Australian society what they take out. Instead, Rhinehart is quoted as saying more workers should work for a lower pay whilst SHE makes billions (most of which she inherited). Its disgraceful. Increase the mining tax to 40% and let the mining tax pay for the Gonski system and reduce our debt. All of us should have a stake in our resources not just the unadulterated criminal greed of Palmer and Rinehart. Much of mining profits go overseas and now that Rinehart is on the board of News Limited, her power will be used for her benefit alone.
How would that pay of the debt??? LOL!!!
Definitely not due too many people struggling as it is.
