Should our Defence Forces be bought home from all Middle Eastern conflicts?

I don't understand why our Defence Forces were sent over their in the first place.

Bring the troops home and send illegal boat people to take their place.

bring our people home and sent theirs back to fight their own war

Shouldn't have been there in the first place

All respect for our troops in Afghanistan but we should not be fighting in these US initiated wars. I am not at all a pacifist but I do not believe Aussies should be serving US foreign policy and imperatives. The US military ultimately serves as an arm of corporate America. That really stinks, I hate seeing soldiers of any national dying as corporate cannon fodder. Not to oversimplify though. I understand there is highly complex cultural, religious and economic issues etc. which have bearing on many nations and peoples, however escalating wars and playing into the hands of extremist, fundamentalist, religious zealots with little regard for life is just not the answer. Consider the 4,486 dead Americans and over 1.4 million Iraqis that have died due to the US invasion. Is this an acceptable cost. Consider the outcome, has the end justified the means?? I do not think so!
