I used to teach English to Arab migrants. I gave it up because they only did it to get the extra money from the government for attending the course. They never did the homework and never practised at home. We have to stop paying them to attend courses. We have to pay if we want to do a course. What is our successive governments doing to our old Australia?

They understand alright, they're quietly changing our society and taking over.

if they integrate into society they will learn quick enough to speak English, I had a girl friend many years ago born in the former Yugoslavia, came here without a word of English, 10 years later spoke better than I did, and I was born here

I remember a case years ago Grandma living in a block of units, looking after the kids, no english, fire, firemen knocking on the door to evaculate, no understande, she and the kids burnt to death, could have been saved if she had at least unstood and learnt the basics. I have lived in another country and took lessons for the first 2 years - wasnt never a good conversationalist but in a bilingual country could make my own way even after a few hilarious blunders.
